For the last 40 years HVAC equipment manufacturers have been producing equipment that uses R-22 refrigerant. Unfortunately, the release of R-22 into the air causes ozone depletion; it is considered greenhosue gas and contributes to global warming. Carrier® was the first company to introduce R-410A into residential equipment in 1996 under the name Puron. Since there is now a better and more eco-friendly product, the EPA is phasing out R-22 refrigerant, and unfortunately the two are not interchangeable.
What will change?
Each year, less and less R-22 will be manufactured, as demonstrated in the graph bellow. With the limited availability the price of R-22 has and will continue to sky rocket and some companies might run out of refrigerant before the end of the year! Refrigerant is an important part of the cooling process and is used in every residential air conditioner.
What does this mean for you as a homeowner?
This means that sooner rather than later, all residential home owners will be forced to replace their air conditioners, and most likely their entire heating and cooling system. Replacement of your HVAC equipment is a good investment, it will not only help the planet, but it will also cut down on your utility bills.
Its time to Go Green!
Every day there are more advertisements about energy saving products. The government has created an Energy Star rating which means that it approved to their standards on cutting down energy consumption. In HVAC equipment this translates to a SEER rating. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It’s the industry standard for rating the cooling efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps. Much like miles-per-gallon for a car, it’s an easy way to compare efficiencies of different products — the higher the SEER, the more efficient the unit.
Energy Efficient HVAC Systems
AirTech installs a wide variety of Coleman Equipment, and we have many options when it comes to the efficiency rating. Coleman is at the top of the HVAC industry and continuously launches new innovative solutions to the world’s energy crisis. When compared to a common household HVAC system, Coleman’s system products can save up to $111 a year in cooling and up to $341 a year in heating. AirTech always offers free estimates. You will be shocked when you see the money saving potentials and your expected return on investment. Let us help you save money and energy for generations to come.
R-410A benefits include:
- up-to $500.00 in stimulus bill tax credits!
- Absorbs and releases heat more efficiently
- Emit less HCFC’s into the atmosphere if there are leaks in your system
- Are more reliable and operate more efficiently in extreme environments
- Feature smaller, but heavier-duty scroll compressors
- Are quieter and operate with less (damaging) vibration
- Run cooler, reducing the risk of overheating or burnout
